The father and brother of Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad have been charged with threatening to kill her.

Azad, who has played Padma Patil in four of the blockbuster films, was allegedly threatened in her home in Manchester, England.

Both her father Abdul Azad, 54, and brother Ashraf Azad, 28, were arrested and charged.

Her brother is also accused of physically assaulting the 22-year-old actress, the Daily Mail reports.

He told the newspaper he believed the charges would cause "trouble from the community" for his family.

"It is bad news for our safety, her safety ... my younger brother is going to get harassed at college," he said.

"Her career could be ruined ... when she goes to a premiere or something, they are going to ask her about this not about the film."

The actress, who lived at the home with her father, mother and three brothers, is now believed to be staying with friends in London.

The accused father and brother appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where the case was adjourned until July 12.
