Robots playing soccer and a guide to good "sax" have helped the University of New South Wales (UNSW) become a hit on video-sharing website YouTube.
According to YouTube's statistics, UNSW's videos have been viewed more than 139,850 times, making it one of the most popular channels in Australia - ranking it alongside Network Ten, ABC Comedy and Channel Seven's Sunrise.
UNSW was one of the first universities to upload video to YouTube, and sees the website as one way of making its content more easily accessible.
"Video has become a mainstream form of communication and we can no longer afford to ignore the potential offered by rich media," UNSWTV executive producer Mary O'Malley said.
"It is an excellent way for us to communicate with an international audience and potential students and researchers."
The most watched UNSW videos include a series on the Robocup robotics finals held in China, research into the sounds of saxophones and a documentary about Muslim life on campus.
The university has added two additional services, a Community Channel and an eLearning Channel, designed to host learning and teaching material.
The YouTube initiative is a precursor to a high-resolution online channel, UNSWTV, which will be launched in August 2008.
