One of the murderers of British toddler James Bulger is reportedly set to marry and his fiancee has absolutely no idea who he is.
Jon Venables was 10 years old when he and schoolmate Robert Thompson abducted the toddler, beat him savagely with an iron bar and left his bludgeoned body on a railway line at the town of Bootle, near Liverpool in the north of England.
Fourteen years on, Venables has a new identity following his release from prison and a "blissfully happy" wife-to-be, London's Daily Mail has reported.
He and Thompson were awarded a High Court order in 2001 granting them anonymity after eight years in jail.
Venables' probation supervisors have asked him not to reveal his true identity to anyone including his fiancee for fear of revenge attacks.
"Case workers have discussed it over and over but say he can't come clean with his wife-to-be," a source told The People.
"If they split acrimoniously or she confides in a friend or relative who doesn't share her love for him, the whole thing could come tumbling down."
The pair have been dating for two years and plan to wed later this year.
Thompson reportedly lives with a gay partner who is understood to be aware of his past.
