Britney Spears's former bodyguard has claimed the former pop-star was a tormented drug abuser who would frighten her children by babbling to them in made-up languages.
Tony Barretto has told News of The World that Spears allegedly suffered an overdose in a drug-laden hotel room with junkie lover Howie Day only days after leaving rehab.
“She was in a terrible state, just sweating and shaking,” Barretto said.
"Her pupils were huge we thought she was dying."
He alleged their room was plastered with empty beer bottles and liquor bottles, small glasses of ice and cigarette butts.
"On the surface of the dresser, I could see mounds of white powder and a straw on top I suspected it was cocaine or powdered methamphetamines," he said.
"By the side I spotted a glass pipe, which I knew from my drugs training was often used with crystal meth."
Barretto said the singer's erratic behaviour, particularly around her sons, caused him concern.
"She wouldn’t talk to them at all and she would be in her own world: I remember being in the hallway, and she was at the other end looking completely out of it," he said.
"She would be nervously chewing her fingernails and babbling away. We’d have to look after the kids while she went through her strange behaviour."
Spears reportedly kept her children up late so they wouldn't wake her in the morning.
She would also speak to them in "weird, creepy, baby voices, in made-up languages, which they just don't get," Barretto said.
The latest wave of allegations has added to the unravelling of the former pop queen, with Barretto testifying against Spears in a courtroom last week.
"I gave evidence to the court because Britney is out of control and needs help I have done this for her children," he said.
"She’s not a good mother, she has mental problems … with her drug and booze issues, her home is no place for kids to be raised."
Meanwhile, Spears has been charged with hit and run and driving without a license.
If she is convicted of the latest hit and run charges, she faces up to six months in prison and a AU$1150 fine for each count.
The incident occurred last month and was captured on film and later posted on a paparazzi website.
The video shows the 25-year-old singer crashing into a parked car at slow speed and, after inspecting the damage to her Mercedes convertible, walking away.
Spears was sent a letter outlining the charges laid and a court date of October 10 was set.
She will not be required to appear at court.
