A new software application for mobile phones could direct emergency services to your location at the push of a button.

The software, called MySpot, has been developed by Sydney-based security company Phantom Eye.

It can be loaded onto a global positioning system (GPS) enabled mobile phone to send out an alert when a pre-defined "panic button" is pressed.

"With a single SOS panic button, (MySpot) can call up to 20 preconfigured phones, send email, SMS, instant and twitter messages with the current or last location of the user," said Phantom Eye chairman, Ken Stokes.

Depending upon how the software is configured, the message can include a voice message or map showing the current street address of the phone, or a "breadcrumb" trail listing a series of last known locations.

MySpot can also send out alert messages if it is not switched off before a pre-defined time, useful for hikers walking alone, or security patrols.

"For example, security guards on their rounds can also set the countdown timer. If the user fails to complete the task safely and stop the countdown within the designated time, the pre-configured voice number is dialled from the phone automatically," Mr Stokes said.

The software costs $30, which provides the user with 20 credits for incoming and outgoing messages. Further credits can purchased be online.

A free 10 day trial of the software can be downloaded from www.phantomeye.com.
