Delta Goodrem's father has issued an ultimatum to would-be son-in-law Brian McFadden — quit smoking or the marriage is off.
McFadden, a former singer for Irish boy band Westlife, said his fiancée's father had put his foot down.
"He gave me the 'dad speech'," the 27-year-old told UK newspaper Mirror.
"(He) said I could wed Delta but there was a condition — 'You can't marry her unless you stop smoking'."
McFadden promised to heed his future father-in-law's advice — but not immediately.
"I'll have to push back the wedding until I do it," he said.
Goodrem had announced her engagement to the Irish musician in late November, ending weeks of speculation.
Yesterday the star couple revealed they would not exchange vows for at least another year.
"We want to have space and time to enjoy it, so it will be 2009 due to our massive workload," McFadden said.
