The much anticipated feature film Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman has been shown in a sneak peek trailer online for the first time.
Kidman introduces the series of clips in front a scene of the Blue Mountains saying she was "extremely proud" to present Baz Luhrmann's "amazing" new movie Australia.
The preview footage begins with Kidman's character speaking to an Aboriginal child in a clipped British accent, narrating the story of a "far away" land she calls Oz.
The direction of the film looks like classic Baz Luhrmann with his fastidious attention to detail while Catherine Martin's art direction oozes the theatrics of the couple's previous hits Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet.
Despite the movie's release date still being six months away, the trailer can now be seen on BigPond TV.
The supporting cast reads like a who's who of Australian actors including Bryan Brown, Jack Thompson, David Wenham, Barry Otto, Bill Hunter and John Jarrett.
The romantic action-adventure is set in northern Australia prior to World War II, about an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits an outback property the size of Belgium.
When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Jackman) to move 2000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country's most unforgiving land — only to face the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces.
"The trailer presents all the elements of a truly epic movie, in the hands of one of the world's most visionary directors and two of the world's biggest movie stars," said Marcos Oliveira, managing director of 20th Century Fox Australia.
"We couldn't be more excited."
Australia will be released in cinemas on November 13.
