Treasurer Peter Costello has professed a commitment to pursuing Aboriginal reconciliation if he becomes prime minister.
Mr Costello, who has previously marched for reconciliation, on Friday said he believes the public wants it.
"I think we should hold out the hand of reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australia," he told the ABC.
"I think they (the public) want to feel that those of us who are doing well, who are part of this prosperous society can reach and hold the hand of those that have been marginalised in Aboriginal communities."
"I think both white Australia and I think Aboriginal Australia wants to do that, and I want to be part of that.
"I have been part of it in the past, I want to build it in the future."
