No Aussie accent for Sunday Rose: Kidman

Kidman announced in the US on Sunday she hopes four-month-old Sunday Rose speaks with the twang of a southern US belle befitting the place of her birth, Nashville, Tennessee.

The Oscar winner and her Australian country music star husband, Keith Urban, have made Nashville their home and the actress raved to a local newspaper about the city.

"I hope she has a Southern accent," Kidman told Nashville's Tennessean newspaper.

Kidman and Urban have lavish homes in Sydney and Los Angeles, but they have gone out of their way to be valued members of the country music capital of the world.

When Kidman was eight-and-a-half months pregnant she helped out the local Meals on Wheels charity by knocking on doors and delivering food to the disadvantaged.

"I'm glad that (Sunday) is able to say she's born and bred in Nashville and Tennessee," Kidman said.

"That is really lovely.

"I think it's very appropriate, considering her daddy.

"His whole life was headed here; from a little boy, he dreamed of coming here.

"For him to be able to say his baby girl was born here, I think is very special."

I don't like Nicole, she can't act anyway, her movies don't do well so if she wants to be American let her. She only got where she is because of Tom. Now Hugh Jackman is a true aussie who still calls Australia home. If she wants her kid to grow up a yank, then who cares. I don't.

"I don't even consider Nicole Kidman Australian. She wasn't actually born here for a start, she doesnt live here anymore, and she only puts on an Aussie accent when its appropriate. She is highly over rated as an actress, and has never displayed any kind of 'aussie' appeal...id be surprised if she understood Aussie humour, she's too prim and propper..shes a show pony! The media should just concentrate on some one else for a week or three, its getting boring!" - I'd like to second that! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Well of course it is unAustralian- having an American accent- but we have to ask ourselves if everything HAS to be Australian, to which the answer is no, it's all about personal choice and where you call home. If Nicole Kidman wants her daughter to sound American, yet still feels she is Australian, does that mean WE should decide she isn't? No, it shouldn't. Yet if Nicole Kidman didn't fancy herself Australian, would that make her any less a person? No, it shouldn't. While it is good to have some sort of country pride, Nationalism is a dangerous thing, especially when you're getting so wound up about something as small as accents. I'm not quite sure why anyone would be fond of an American accent- particularly the southern one- but, like I said, it's personal choice. However, I really don't know why this has made national news- that's embarrasing.

This is the poor couple who have been bugged, harassed and continuously stalked by paparazzi every time they set foot on Australian soil. No wonder they would choose to live elsewhere where they appear to be able to go about their business in relative privacy. If this means their daughter has an American accent, it is a small price to pay for a bit of privacy.

that woman has forgot where she came from ,and who supported her when she was a nobody .....how quickly they forget . I say keep the brat there in America,every good aussie will tell you this is the best place in the world for bringing up kids ,she and hubby just aren't a good aussies.

for goodness sake! what is wrong with people - The little girl is an American why wouldn't she speak with and American accent! There really is no choice in the matter! The majority of people around her will have American accents. But personally I can not stand the twang of a southern american accent!

People need to do some research. Nicole was born in Hawaii and Keith Urban was born in NZ. Hows this got to do with Australia??? Their baby is American. Greatest country in the world!

They spend more time in the US and only sound Australian themselves these days to try and sell us something. She wasnt born here anyway was she so maybe its because she wishes she sounded american while growing up that she wants her daughter to. Their work is over there and the child was born there so its bound to happen and big deal really Id be more interested in my daughter being happy than making sure she she "Fits" in just cause her daddy had a dream la di da.

I have lived in many countries with my children. They will pick up whatever accent they live around especially when they go to school. Get real people. Wherever this child lives that is the way she will speak. She might come up with her own accent. Good on her.
