Ex-South Australian Liberal premier Rob Kerin's resignation from parliament creates a by-election.
A state by-election, prompted by the resignation of former South Australian Liberal premier Rob Kerin, will be held on January 17.
After 15 years in the SA parliament, including six months as premier from October 2001 to March 2002, Mr Kerin recently quit as the member for the country seat of Frome.
House of Assembly Speaker Jack Snelling said nominations for the by-election would close on December 18, with the poll to be held a month later.
The Liberals are expected to retain the seat.
