Michael Jackson's father Joe has requested an allowance from his dead son's estate, saying that he is accustomed to being supported by the late pop star.
The BBC reports that Joe Jackson requires a minimum of $20,000 a month for his living expenses but is currently only receiving $1700 in social security.
His expenses include rent on his Las Vegas home, meals out and flights.
He also has considerable medical expenses as he fights diabetes and a heart condition.
Jackson was omitted from his son's will, meaning he must go through protracted court hearings to obtain an allowance.
Previously Jackson snr. claimed that he received an allowance from Michael via other family members.
Howard Weitzman, a lawyer for the administrators of the estate told the BBC it was "quite surprising to learn of the request".
"Mr Jackson's petition will be considered as are all requests for money from Michael's estate," he said.
Since Jackson's death, the estate's coffers have expanded, earning around $108 million since June 25.
