Elderly central Queensland residents are being warned not to hand over money to unknown handymen until the work has been completed, after a series of scams were detected by police.
Two men and a woman have been approaching elderly homeowners in the Mackay district, offering to provide handyman services such as painting and cleaning houses.
Acting Inspector Dianne Bubb said reports had been made to Mackay police where services have been offered, cash then exchanged, but the work never carried out.
"People need to make informed decisions and not feel compelled to act straight away," she said.
"Don't let anyone talk you into accepting their quote immediately and paying cash up-front."
