Project manager and maintenance services provider Transfield Services Ltd say it's well positioned to take advantage of emerging opportunities in gas markets in Australia, north America and the Middle East.

"We are seeing opportunities for future growth in liquefied natural gas and coal seam methane developments in Australia, in oil and gas and infrastructure in North America and the Middle East," chairman Tony Shepherd told shareholders at the company's annual general meeting on Wednesday.

"These are core sectors for Transfield Services - our business was founded in the oil and gas and infrastructure sectors."

He also cited potential opportunities in social infrastructure markets in Australia and New Zealand, and the Australian renewable energy sector.

Transfield Services expects to deliver flat to modest net profit growth and continuing strong cash generation in 2009/10.
