A celebrity wedding planner has been accused of sabotaging a couple's nuptials after taking more than $224,000 and not showing up to the event.

David Tutera, who hosts the US television shows The Party Planner and My Fair Wedding is being sued over allegations he told subcontractors not to fulfil contractual obligations to Melissa Chin and Steve Choi, the New York Daily News reported.

The couple said Tutera had promised a spectacular wedding but when the day came he had failed to provide a bridal bouquet, tablecloths, a dance floor or a VIP table.

Tutera had received a $110,000 deposit as well as four business class plane tickets between New York and Singapore, where the wedding took place in August last year.

The couple described the reality TV star as being "despicable" and "arrogant" when planning the high-priced wedding.

"Plaintiffs have been harmed personally and financially and had to live in a state of fear as to what items they needed to pay for in Singapore to make their wedding not fall apart," the lawsuit said.

A spokeswoman for the celebrity wedding planner did not comment on the suit.
