A pair of AC/DC devotees hope to lure the rockers to a Melbourne laneway named after them by turning it into a rock 'n' roll shrine.

Artist Ben Couzens and publican James Young have plastered the city's famous AC/DC Lane with giant posters of the veteran band in a tribute spanning their entire 37-year career.

"We're thinking of every idea we possibly can to encourage the band to come down here," Mr Young, owner of the laneway's watering hole Cherry Bar, told ninemsn.

"I knew there was going to be thousands of fans coming down to take a photo of AC/DC Lane, but I didn't want them to walk away with nothing but a picture of a street sign.

"We really wanted to give a gift to the fans of the greatest band in the world."

The laneway tribute also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the death of former lead singer Bon Scott, on February 19.

"If you paste over these posters before February nineteen Bon will come to you in your sleep and punch you in the face," reads one of the signs posted along the 45m laneway.

Mr Young is confident AC/DC will pay the laneway a visit in the coming days.

The rockers attended the opening of the world's only other AC/DC-named street, Madrid's "Calle de AC/DC", in 2000 — but have not been on Australian shores since Melbourne City Council honoured them with AC/DC Lane in 2004.

The rockers last visited Melbourne eight years ago.

"We have made every effort under the sun to get AC/DC to come down here and check it out," Mr Young said.

"They are a no-fuss group of guys so I'm hopeful they'll make an unannounced appearance here sometime.

"It's a fantastic tribute to them — to have a dirty little rock 'n' roll street in Melbourne named after a group whose sound is of the street, for the street and in the street."

The AC/DC Black Ice Tour begins at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium tomorrow night before hitting Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
