Plumbers were called to the luxury Bondi apartment early Saturday morning where Michael Clarke and Lara Bingle lived together, to retrieve Bingle's $200,000 engagement ring after it was reportedly flushed down the toilet.
Workers from a Sydney plumbing company told The Sun-Herald newspaper they were called to the Campbell Parade address to get back an item of "significant value", adding that they believe it was Bingle's diamond ring.
"We received an early morning call about 2.30 – 3.00am regarding a plumbing issue," the unnamed employee from Twin Pipes plumbing told the Herald.
"Someone had placed something, worth a lot of money, down the toilet."
The plumbers failed on their first attempt to retrieve the ring so came back with specialised camera equipment but still failed to locate the item.
It was explained a truck would be needed to come inside the complex but that was refused for fear of creating a "media frenzy".
Meanwhile Clarke and Bingle have been dumped as the 'faces' of an energy drink following their split.
Bingle and Clarke teamed up for Synergy Drinks last year, doing a steamy photo shoot, to represent the brand in an endorsement deal reportedly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
But the company announced on Saturday that they will be ending their relationship with the pair as they no longer represent the brand's values.
"Due to recent events and the announcement of Michael and Lara's separation, they no longer represent Synergy's core values; that of 'forces combining to create greater healthier energy'," the company said in a statement to AAP yesterday.
"As a result, Synergy Drinks has decided to terminate the contract with Michael and Lara as a couple."
The company said they offer "sincere regards to both of them and wish them well at this difficult time".
The glamour couple officially announced the termination of their engagement on Friday night, ending days of speculation.
