From office to ballroom, and to rock gigs in between, Australian designers are taking their 2010 autumn/winter fashion collections in all directions.
The first show at the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival's Docklands headquarters on Monday saw models walking sky-high on gladiator stiletto heels with ankle cuffs of feathers and studs.
Demure tailoring of mainly black lace and silk contrasted sharply with ready-for-battle bodices of gold and silver panelling.
Teamed with leggings and baggier harem pants were draped jackets cropped above the midriff.
In the softer styles, glittery tulle, sequins and strapless nautical tops and dresses were worn fitted and understated.
Among the designs in the Grazia show were sass & bide, Toni Maticevski, Collette Dinnigan, Alice McCall, Fleur Wood, Nicola Finetti, camilla and mark, and LIFEwithBIRD.
Fashionistas have now moved on to the Myer collection at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for more new designs on show, accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Models showing at Myer include Jennifer Hawkins and former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks' son Nick Bracks making his debut.
