An Australian TV station has been forced to scrap an advertisement that poked fun at Donald Trump's hair.

The ad, which featured a CGI mock-up of the New York property mogul's combover being blown back by a strong wind, appeared on pay television channel FOX8 to promote the new season of The Celebrity Apprentice.

Rhona Graff, a spokeswoman for the Trump Organisation, told ninemsn the ad had been pulled after a complaint was made on behalf of Donald Trump.

"I think they were done in good fun and not meant to be disrespectful to Mr Trump," Ms Graff said.

"However, as a courtesy to him, they have been pulled."

The ad is believed to have been created in-house at the Sydney-based FOX8 headquarters, and it was not given to the Trump Organisation for pre-approval.

A FOX8 spokeswoman was unable to provide any specific details but confirmed the ad "had been fired".

Trump has long been the target of jokes related to his hair, with an article in the New York Times once describing it as "an elaborate structure best left to an architecture critic".

He reportedly responded by saying: "I think it looks good".

The Celebrity Apprentice, which is currently in its third season, was recently thrown into chaos when contestant Bret Michaels suffered a brain haemorrhage.

The former frontman for heavy metal band Poison was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but has since shown signs of improvement.
