Leonard Cohen has announced a six-date tour of Australia less than two years after wowing audiences during his last visit.

The Canadian singer songwriter will perform concerts in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth from November 6-24 following three shows in New Zealand.

Cohen last visited Australia in early 2009 when his tour won the Helpmann Award for the Best International Concert.

He is expected to be welcomed back warmly by audiences after donating $200,000 to the Victorian bushfire appeal.

The reclusive 74-year-old is famed for his distinctive voice and mournfully emotive songs such as Suzanne and Hallelujah.

The tour will stop at Brisbane Entertainment Centre (November 6), Sydney Acer Arena (8), Melbourne Rod Laver Arena (12), Hobart Derwent (15), Adelaide Entertainment Centre (18) and Perth ME Bank Stadium (24).

Tickets go on sale on Monday, May 31.
