The eldest daughter of American Beauty star Annette Bening and Warren Beatty is going to college dressed as a man and planning a sex-change operation.
Kathlyn Beatty, 18, changed her name to Stephen Ira and started a Facebook page where she posted a photograph of herself dressed in a tuxedo, the National Enquirer reports.
Kathlyn has reportedly asked classmates to call her Stephen.
Beatty and Bening are said to be crushed by their daughter's decision but are standing by her.
"Annette still remains very close to Kathlyn. And while Warren loves his daughter and will never turn his back on her, this experience is crushing him," a family friend was quoted as saying.
The friend said Kathlyn told her parents she would have gender reassignment surgery when she turned 18, like Sonny and Cher's daughter Chastity Bono did.
Chastity came out as a lesbian to gay publication The Advocate in 1995 before undergoing her transition from female to male in 2008 — 2010.
She changed her name to Chaz and sex to male in May this year.
