An altercation featured in a new Discovery TV show is being touted as the 'most violent giraffe fight ever filmed'.

It's being called "the most violent giraffe fight ever filmed", but at their fiercest moment there's still something hilarious about these battling giants.

Footage of the two males exchanging blows over territory features in Discovery's new TV show Africa.

The animals use their necks like whips, which are nearly 2m long and weigh more than 220kg.

Narrator Forrest Whittaker explains that one of the giraffes has set his eyes on a female and the other is a younger animal out to stake his claim.

"It's extremely rare to catch a giraffe fight on film," he says.

"Most of the time they're gentle vegetarians."

The altercation was reportedly the only giraffe fight the crew saw while filming the seven-part production.
