A basketball fan tricked into thinking she had been picked to take a $20,000 half-court shot got the shock of her life when she turned around from her dismal effort to find her boyfriend proposing on one knee.
The American couple were attending the NBA match between Miami Heat and Orlando Magic at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, yesterday when the proposal was filmed, USA Today reports.
The woman was brought onto the court during halftime and told she had a shot at $20,000 if she could sink a basket from the halfway line.
Little did she know there was no prize on offer and it was all an elaborate plan by her boyfriend and Orlando Magic officials.
Unaware of the ruse, she prepared to take the shot and failed miserably -- barely getting the ball to three-point line.
An announcer then told the woman she had won a consolation prize and told her to turn around to see it.
When she did she was surprised to see her boyfriend on the court on one knee, but didn't realise he was holding open a box with an engagement ring inside.
After taking a closer look she began to shed tears before accepting her boyfriend's offer.
The crowd cheered enthusiastically as Wedding March was played on an organ over the PA system.
