Nicole Richie 'smashed fan's camera'

Reality television star Nicole Richie lost her cool at New York Fashion Week, leaping across a velvet rope to assault a camera-wielding fan, according to a report.

Richie was attending an after-party for fashion designer Charlotte Ronson, the twin sister of Lindsay Lohan's girlfriend Samantha Ronson, when she lost her temper, according to the New York Post.

A witness who was quoted in the newspaper said a young Swedish fan took photos of Richie when she left the Manhattan party.

Richie jumped over the velvet rope screaming "I'm not an animal", before ripping the camera out of the tourist's hand and smashing it on the ground, according to the report.

The paper said Richie's reps had been unavailable for comment.

Richie is no stranger to controversy — she spent 82 minutes in jail last year after she admitted to driving under the influence of marijuana and Vicodin.
