Paris Hilton's publicist has denied reports two of the socialite's dogs have been killed by coyotes.

The report surfaced first in X17 Online. The celebrity website said Hilton's beloved pets were attacked at her Hollywood Hills mansion yesterday afternoon (AEST).

The website quoted one source who said the heiress was "devastated" by the deaths.

"Some people think she's eccentric, having so many pets, but she just really, really loves animals and it was devastating for her," the source said.

Hilton's representative has since told Access Hollywood the story is "completely false".

"... [I] do not know how it developed," he said.

X17 Online has refused to back down and told Access the coyote attack was confirmed by two reliable sources.

The website said it was not unusual for coyotes to attack pets in the area. Halle Berry and Demi Moore have also had animals snatched from their properties.

Earlier this year, Hilton was investigated after admitting on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show that she owned 17 dogs.

Under US law, a non-breeder is only allowed to have three dogs per address.

According to TMZ, a Department of Animal Spokesman said the Simple Life star and her animals weren't home when they visited.
