She's played stately queens and beauty pageant contestants, but in real life Kirsten Dunst "couldn't care less" about her looks.

Dunst, 26, has said she wears clothes to make her feel comfortable and is unfazed by being named on Hollywood's worst dressed lists.

"I don't have the energy to care if people criticise the way I look — I'm over getting dressed up," she said to US magazine OK!.

"Being fun is way better than being beautiful. I would rather entertain people."

Her comments come barely a year after releasing her own fashion line, in partnership with design house Lutz & Patmos, at New York Fashion Week.

Dunst, one of the few child stars whose success has continued into adulthood, also said she was blasé about the direction of her career.

"I don't have career goals — it's not the most important thing," she said.

"I do have life goals though. I'd love to start a family one day. That would be the honour of my life."

Some of Dunst's "fashion-conscious" film roles have included the Queen of France, in the 2006 historical film Mary Antoinette, and a tap-dancing beauty pageant hopeful, in the 1999 dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous.

However she is perhaps better known for her role as Peter Parker's lover interest in the Spider-Man films.
