Pathologists have determined that John Travolta's son died from a seizure, according to US media.

The Travolta family had revealed their son Jett suffered a seizure and apparently hit his head in the bathroom of their holiday house in the Bahamas last Saturday (AEDT).

Now the assistant director of the funeral home in Florida that will receive Jett's body has revealed that the autopsy on the 16-year-old boy has confirmed he died from the seizure.

The funeral home staff member said Jett's death certificate lists "seizure" as the cause of death, US website TMZ reports.

"The body was in great condition and shows no sign of head trauma," the assistant director was quoted as saying.

This is despite reports from the Travolta family and police that Jett hit his head on the toilet seat or bathtub inside his room at the Old Bahama Bay Resort at about 10am on Friday morning (2am Saturday AEDT).

There is still no official word from the coroner, however.

The boy's body will be flown back to Florida for the funeral ceremony.

Bahamas police have suggested Jett may have died on one of his frequent trips to the bathroom during the night, TMZ.com reports.

Jett was last seen alive going to the toilet at about 11.30pm last Thursday after going to his bedroom sometime around 6pm following a tiring day out boating with his parents, actors John Travolta and Kelly Preston.

Jett's two nannies went to bed at about the same time as Jett and police believe this may have left the teenager unattended for about 10 hours.

The family has denied that Jett — who was believed to suffer physical and mental disabilities — was left alone for that long.

According to John Travolta's lawyer and close friend, Michael McDermott, there was only a "small window of time" between when Jett had the seizure to when he was discovered by one of his nannies.
