One of South Australia's best-known cartoonists and children's book illustrators, Michael Atchison, has died aged 75.
Atchison was awarded the Order of Australia in 2007 for his 40 years service to the media and also won the coveted Jim Russell Award from the Australian Cartoonists' Association.
Born in Victoria and educated in South Australia, he moved to Sydney in 1967 to work as political cartoonist on the Daily Mirror before retiring as The Adelaide Advertiser's cartoonist at the start of last year due to ill health.
He died peacefully at Mary Potter Hospice on Monday.
