Paris Hilton's defence against claims that she was in possession of cocaine could be blown apart by a photo she posted on Twitter.
The 29-year-old socialite claimed she did not own a purse containing a quantity of cocaine found in her car after police pulled her over in Las Vegas last weekend.
She said the purse belonged to a friend.
Yet just over a month before she was arrested, Hilton posted a picture on Twitter of a very similar-looking Chanel purse with the caption: 'Love My New Chanel Purse I got Today. :)'
If she owns the purse, it would discredit another part of her defence — that the bag was not classy enough to be hers.
Police say it does not matter if Hilton does not own the purse as the drugs were still in her possession.
Hilton and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Cy Waits, were pulled over in the early hours of Saturday morning after police officers smelled what they thought was marijuana wafting from her car.
Hilton pulled a tube of lip balm out of her purse and with it fell a bundle of cocaine in a plastic bag, police reports said.
She was arrested on drug possession charges and later released.
The police reports showed that she had 0.8g of cocaine and, if convicted, could face up to four years in jail.
Paris' lawyer suggested she may have been illegally searched.
