The launch of the fifth series of Australia's Next Top Model has entered the record books - becoming the most watched premiere on pay TV.

An average national audience of 302,000 people tuned into the show on Tuesday night, during which the 13 finalists were introduced.

The figures were 25 per cent higher than last year's program and a spokeswoman said it was the highest rating launch across the Foxtel platform.

That was good news for co-executive producer and new host Sarah Murdoch, who has replaced Jodhi Meares.

The high ratings come after much publicity for the show, with judge and designer Alex Perry coming under fire for some of his comments about finalists.
