Kerri-Anne Kennerley is standing by remarks she made on air this morning where she described women who party with high-profile AFL players as "strays".

The Nine Network TV host has drawn sharp criticism after the comment, which she made during an interview with ex-AFL player Peter "Spida" Everitt on her show Kerri-Anne.

"What do women expect when they are out late at night?" Kennerley told Nine News this evening.

"It's all very exciting, and they meet guys they've never known personally in their life.

"They put themselves in serious potential danger — they have to learn that".

This morning Everitt and Kennerley were discussing the sexual assault allegations involving two Collingwood players when the daytime television veteran said footballers "put themselves in harm's way by picking up strays".

NSW Rape Crisis Centre spokeswoman Karen Willis condemned the comments.

"This idea that how a person dresses or behaves or whether or not they've had a drink and therefore that indicates that somehow they're asking for it or deserve to be sexually assaulted — I really thought we've moved past that," Ms Willis told Nine News.

Everitt sparked controversy yesterday when he used Twitter make incendiary comments about the sexual assault allegations stemming from Collingwood's AFL Grand Final celebrations.

Everitt had a heated exchange with Melbourne radio hosts Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek about his views this morning.

Two unnamed Collingwood players have already been questioned by police over the alleged incident, which reportedly took place at a South Melbourne apartment in the early hours of Sunday morning.

No charges have been laid.
