A slick, updated set greeted Sydney viewers of Nine News' 6pm bulletin tonight.

Featuring the Sydney Harbour Bridge prominently in the background, the new set is "modern, fresh and cutting edge", according to Nine's Sydney news director Darren Wick.

"We've seen the commitment from the network and David Gyngell to the Nine News brand and the new set is just another demonstration of the importance of news and current affairs to this network's battle to be No.1," he said.

"It's a cutting-edge set. It's a set that takes news presentation in Australia to a whole new level.

"Nine viewers can rest assured that the team behind this news brand they trust will continue to deliver the important stories with the same accuracy, urgency and skill as ever."
