The trailer of Gordon Ramsay's upcoming film debut has copped as much criticism as the fiery-tongued star dishes out on his popular reality TV shows.

While most of the barbs are not directed at the celebrity chef himself, the preview of Love's Kitchen has been universally panned by critics and commentators across the web.

It is not even clear if it is promoting a real film, with some questioning if the trailer is a spoof.

Even though no one has seen the romantic comedy, its lengthy trailer gives away the entire plot.

The film tells the predictable tale of Rob, a talented chef who loses his motivation after his wife dies.

However, with the help of his good mate Gordon Ramsay (who plays himself in the film), Rob manages to turn it all around, eventually finding love again and setting up a successful restaurant in a small town.

The Guardian's film review section points out there is arguably yet to be a successful film about chefs and asks if Love's Kitchen "can really be as woeful as its counterparts?".

Hardly a ringing endorsement. But it is one of the milder criticisms out there.

Popular UK website The Media Blog describes the film thus: "Take a pinch of Love Actually, mix in a dash of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, add a spoonful of tears and then stir it for the rest of your natural life with a stick made of pure awfulness."

Digital Spy simply calls it "the worst film of the year".

At time of publication Love Kitchen's Australian debut date had yet to be confirmed.
