Twilight star Robert Pattinson was hit by a taxi in Manhattan overnight as he ran away from a horde of teenage fans.

The 23-year-old actor, who stars in the teenage vampire movies, was clipped on the hip in front a bookstore where he was shooting scenes for his new film Remember Me, US media report.

Flanked by five security guards, Pattinson tried to duck past a group of teenage girls and run across the street to his trailer when the accident occurred.

He was not seriously injured but his bodyguards were reportedly furious.

According to RadarOnline.com, one of the bodyguards yelled at the girls: "You see what you did, you almost killed him!"

The taxi driver slammed on the brakes as soon as he realised what had happened, while Pattinson stood still and appeared stunned, the celebrity website reported
