The Chaser's War On Everything will take aim at some safer targets when it returns to TV on Wednesday night.

The top-rating program was taken off the ABC for two weeks after their Make A Realistic Wish skit about dying children caused widespread public outrage.

This week The Chaser has politicians and underworld figures in their sights.

The team will reveal their role in the Ute-gate scandal by producing the fake email, as well as the fake prime minister and fake opposition leader, and work through the Moran family hit list to find the new kingpin of the Melbourne underworld.

But it wouldn't be a Chaser show without some controversy, which this week could come from a sketch about the Catholic Church.
