Jeff Goldblum is not dead.

Rumours are running rife on the internet that Goldblum fell to his death while filming in New Zealand.

The story, which first appeared on the spoof website Global Associated News and named the New Zealand police as its source, is a hoax.

The website clearly states below the story: "This story was dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100 percent fabricated by website visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."

New Zealand police told ninemsn it was highly unlikely that the report was true. "It is the first we have heard of it," police said.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has also slammed suggestions that the actor is dead.

"Please don't get caught up in hysteria. Please don't spread lies! All this talk of Jeff Goldblum, Harrison Ford, etc is bulls**t!," Hilton said.

The death of pop legend Michael Jackson earlier today appears to have spawned a host of rumours that other celebrities have died.

Unconfirmed reports that Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford has been lost at sea have also emerged.

But according to US reports, both Jeff Goldblum and Harrison Ford are currently shooting a comedy in New York.

The two actors are mid-way through filming Morning Glory, the story of an old-school TV anchorman who joins a morning show. The cast, which includes Diane Keaton and Patrick Wilson, is expected to finish filming on August 15.
