Nine has today announced that newsreader Mark Ferguson will leave the network later this year.

Chief executive David Gyngell offered his best wishes to Ferguson, a friend and colleague of many years.

"We're actually flattered that another network had to look to Nine to find another newsreader," he said.

Ferguson will continue to present Nine's new program THISafternoon.

"I've had a wonderful journey at Channel Nine and worked alongside some great people, but it's time for a change," he said.

Ferguson has been with Nine News for more than 17 years.
