Things are heating up on reality TV show Masterchef amid reports two of the show's contestants have become an item.

Series favourite Chris Badenoch was spied cosying up to fellow contestant Julia Jenkins during a flight from Sydney to Melbourne last week, which sent the MasterChef forums into overdrive.

"Julia was stroking Chris's leg and laying her head on his shoulder," a passenger was quoted as saying.

"There was lots of talk on the plane as no one knew they were together."

The pair were then spied having breakfast together at a cafe in North Melbourne.

Badenoch, a 41-year-old Melbourne Beer merchant, and Jenkins, 23, have both recently split from their previous partners, the Daily Telegraph reports.

"Both Julia and I have recently come out of relationships that have ended independently of our friendship," Badenoch told the Telegraph.

"It's early days but at the moment we're just good friends."

The pair have made it to the top five in the competition, with the winner to be crowned Australia's first Masterchef on the show's final episode on Sunday night.

Last night former professional golfer Lucas Parsons was eliminated from the show. (Read more: Early win 'costs' MasterChef evictee)
