British actor Daniel Radcliffe has admitted to being drunk while filming some scenes for the Harry Potter movies.

Radcliffe, 22, told the British celebrity news magazine Heat there was a point in his life when he was drinking nightly and would sometimes go to work while he was still drunk from the night before.

"I can honestly say I never drank at work on Harry Potter," Radcliffe was quoted by the magazine as saying.

"I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work. I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone, dead behind the eyes."

Radcliffe, who was 11 years old when he was cast as boy wizard Harry Potter and catapulted into stardom, blamed an "addictive personality" and said he "very adept" at hiding his drinking habit.

"After a while, you're living under such a cloud of shame about what you've done and the dread of who you might see, what you might have said to them, what you might have done with them," Radcliffe said.

Radcliffe, who is currently promoting his latest film The Woman in Black, said that he no longer drinks.
