Pop star Kylie Minogue says she has contacted the police after receiving threats from a "deluded weirdo" following her on Twitter.

The 43-year-old singer tweeted this morning to her legion of followers on the social network site that one user had forced her to alert police.

"I love 1,033,861 of you LOVERS, but 1 is not a lover, just a deluded weirdo making threats #andthatdoesnotmakeyouspecial SO..police alerted," Minogue tweeted.

The nature of the threat is currently unknown.

Support for the pop princess has been rolling in over the last few hours with Twitter followers calling for the person making the threats to leave her alone.

"No one messes with OUR Kylie, leave our Kylie alone we only send love," Terence Belletty tweeted.

Other users tweeted "stay safe little one!" and "whoever the weirdo is I hope he (I assume it’s a he)gets what he deserves".

Minogue has been the subject of threats in the past and was forced to call police in 2003 after receiving threatening letters at her home and office.
