Video has emerged of Whitney Houston's ex-husband, singer Bobby Brown, breaking down in tears onstage after learning of the star’s death.

Brown, 43, took to the stage at a concert in Mississippi late Saturday with his group New Edition just hours after news broke that Houston had died aged 48 in her hotel room in Beverly Hills.

At the end of one song, a teary-eyed Brown shouted "I love you, Whitney!" and blew a kiss to the sky, the celebrity magazine Us reported Sunday.

During another song, Brown broke down and could be seen wiping the tears from his eyes.

Houston was married to Brown from 1992 to 2007.

The legendary singer, who blamed her emotionally abusive and jealous ex-husband for many of her problems, admitted in news interviews that she had been addicted to marijuana and cocaine, and that she had spent time in rehab.

Brown, a successful rhythm and blues singer in his own right during the late 1980s and early '90s, became better known as the husband of Houston and for his frequent brushes with drugs and the law.

The pair starred in a television reality series, "Being Bobby Brown," which featured their marriage, warts and all. Their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, is 18.
