Australian singer Kylie Minogue has backed the favourite, UK artist Adele, to take out best female solo artist at the Brit awards.

Arriving at the London venue for Tuesday night's ceremony, Minogue, 43, praised the 23-year-old's talent, acknowledging the recent throat surgery that put the star out of action for a short time.

"I would have to say Adele," Minogue told Sky News when asked who she favoured for the award, which she will present.

"It's been her year, she's had a triumphant comeback, her talent is extraordinary. Say no more."

Adele, who won six Grammys last week in Los Angeles, is nominated for three Brits - British album, British single and British female artist.

In the latter category, Adele is the clear favourite - according to British media reports - ahead of Florence and the Machine, Jessie J, Laura Marling and Kate Bush.

Minogue, who is celebrating 25 years in the music industry, sparkled in an off-the-shoulder blue dress on Tuesday night, recalling her first performance at the Brits a decade ago.

"It was 10 years ago today that I performed Can't Get You Out Of My Head at the Brits, which was my first performance," she said.

Since her debut, the one-time Neighbours star has returned to the glamorous British music night, performing alongside Justin Timberlake and also presenting awards.
