Dr Conrad Murray has filed legal documents asking for his manslaughter conviction to be overturned.

The 58-year-old physician was sentenced to four years behind bars for the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson, who died two years ago from acute Propofol intoxication.

Murray appealed his conviction in December and TMZ reports that he is now requesting that a judge repeal his guilty verdict entirely.

The doctor and his legal team contend that it was a mistake for the court to exclude evidence of Jackson's financial worries from being heard during the trial.

Murray claims that Jackson's money problems may have lead the singer to self-administering a lethal dose of Propofol on the day of his death.

"Mr. Jackson was in debt approximately $US440 million and desperately needed to fulfil a contractual commitment at the O2 arena in London," court documents read.

"He was on the verge of losing his entire estate to foreclosure. The pressure to fight through his insomnia, to rehearse and be the entertainer he was in his earlier years was overwhelming.

"His motivation and resulting desperation were relevant to show a likelihood or reason to act in a manner inconsistent with good judgment."

Murray asked to be released from jail last month, as he believed he was given an unfair trial.

He remains in jail currently and is reportedly living in solitary confinement under maximum security conditions.
