Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been left shaken after being stalked by an Ivy League mob at a college football match.

Watson, who is studying at Brown University, attended the match to support her college's American football team against its Harvard University rivals, The New York Post reports.

But during the game the actress had to be protected by security guards after she was allegedly harassed by members of Harvard's student magazine The Voice.

After hearing Watson would be at the game, the Harvard students posted a blog on their website vowing to draw as much attention to her as possible.

"We will be Live-Tweetin' the game and possibly stalking Emma Watson, so keep your eyes peeled for that, too!" a post before the game said.

The blog was updated throughout the match with posts that read, "In enemy territory. Lookin for a certain witch" and "Watson found. I repeat Watson found."

The Voice also posted a photo of Watson at the game before branding the stalking campaign a success, the Post reports.

Responding to a flurry of complaints, the editor of The Voice, Alicia Ramos, said the blog was not meant to be taken seriously.

"There seems to be much ado about nothing over this photo and liveblog," she said in a message posted on the website.

"Understand that these live tweets were made to be intentionally outrageous and overblown."
