A poster for the upcoming film Sex and the City 2 has disappointed fans of the series, with some bloggers claiming Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a robot in the heavily airbrushed image.

The poster, which was released in Australia yesterday exclusively through ninemsn's MovieFix website, depicts Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw strutting in front of a diamond-studded "2".

The highly anticipated film, to be released next year, will see the 44-year-old actress reunited with fellow leads Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.

But fans of the TV series and original film are upset with the latest marketing campaign for the movie, labelling the poster a "Photoshop disaster".

A blogger for the news website Air America slammed its creators for "unnecessary and overwrought editing".

"The poster for the movie's sequel has just been released and looking at it, one would be forgiven for thinking it took place in the year 3072 and all the characters had been replaced by robots," the blogger wrote.

Celebrity gossip site Celebuzz said the poster made the film look like an "action movie".

"Is she wearing those giant sunglasses because there is so much bling going on here that she would go blind if she took them off?" an article on the website read.

An article on the National Post said the poster was "really disappointing".

"Between the boring outfit ... SJP's weird biting-her-tongue pose, the random disco theme and the obscene amounts airbrushing, it all adds up to lame," a blogger wrote.

The Sex and the City sequel is due for Australian release in June next year.
