The pool at the Mediterranean Games was the scene of an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction today when Italian Olympic swimmer Flavia Zoccari's costume burst open.

Zoccari, 22, was reportedly wearing a $650 top-of-the-line Jaked J01 swimsuit when it split at the back before her championship race in Italy.

A red-faced Zoccari burst into tears and fled after officials forced her to stand down from her race.

She later apologised for her inadvertent exposure.
