More than 300 people have robot danced into the record books in Melbourne.

A huge crowd of mostly students gathered at Melbourne University today in an attempt to break the previous title of 276 people moving in 1980s-inspired robotic unison .

After a false start — with organisers experiencing problems recording participant numbers — a second attempt of 318 dancers was verified by Guinness World Records.

This event was organised to attract young schoolgirls into science, engineering and technology courses.
