The longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century has been witnessed by millions of people across Asia.

The 250km-wide corridor of darkness travelled half the globe, passing through the world's two most populous nations in India and China.

People in Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar looked on in awe as the moon passed in front of the sun for a total of about six-and-a-half minutes.

Some countries see the event as a mixed blessing, with certain Indian and Chinese beliefs suggesting the occurrence brings bad luck.
