Darwin City Council workers believe they have caught the enormous fish that attacked a woman two weeks ago.

A huge estuary cod was hooked in Lake Alexander this morning following the hunt for the creature that had bitten onto the foot of a woman at the popular watering hole.

Measuring 75cm and weighing 5kg, the fish — nicknamed "The Fannie Bay Monster" — was snared just 10m from where the attack took place.

The cod was placed in a rubbish bin and transported 200m to the beach where it was released away from swimmers.
