The death toll from wild weather in the Philippines has risen to 106 with many more still missing, the government says.

Evacuation centres are overflowing as the number of people displaced by tropical storm Ketsana passes 337,000.

Locals desperately clung to dry land and waded through chest-deep water as suburban areas east of the capital Manila remain under water.

Army troops, police and civilian volunteers reportedly rescued more than 5000 people.
