A Queensland woman claims a 5m-long amethyst python devoured her pet goat.

The python is reported to have spent several days digesting the animal before slithering into neighbouring rainforest in Kuranda in the state's northeast.

Stuart Douglas from the Australian Venom Zoo said amethyst pythons, native to far north Queensland, were eating domesticated animals because of a shortage of wallabies.
